[ARCHIVED] PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING JULY 4TH FIREWORKS DISPLAY

Fireworks 2

Hello Lincoln Community,

We regret to inform you that the Town of Lincoln will need to cancel our July 4th Fireworks display this summer 2020, and will not be able to resume the tradition until the completion of the school renovation project on the Ballfield Road Campus.

We reached this decision after careful evaluation of school project logistics and determined that, until the renovation is completed, the campus will have neither the parking capacity nor sufficient pedestrian access to the fireworks display site at Codman Field.

We explored options to move the show to a new location, but were unable to identify a site that could safely accommodate an event of this size.  The July 4th fireworks display attracts over 5,000 spectators each year, requiring a considerable amount of town personnel and resources. Over 1,000 cars are parked on the Ballfield Road campus, with overflow vehicular traffic detoured to surrounding roadways and parking areas.

The town is working hard to keep the Ballfield Road campus as accessible as possible during the project timeline, but an event of this scale cannot be run safely in the reduced space.  We have not yet determined when the campus will be ready to resume this tradition, but will keep you informed.

All July 4th morning activities - including the road race, reading of the Declaration of Independence, children’s bicycle parade, main parade and Boy Scout lunch - are expected to run as usual and the Codman Pool will remain open and free for community use that day.

We are always looking for new energy and ideas to invigorate our public events, especially during the temporary loss of this beloved tradition.  Anyone interested in helping out should contact the Parks and Recreation Department at 781-259-0784… we would love to hear from you!
