..and let's get ready to do it again!
Maryann Thompson Architects truly appreciates the feedback residents provided via the "Wish List" and "Character Study". While we were filling those out, the MTA team met with Council on Aging and Parks and Recreation staff to discuss the program needs for each/both. They also toured several facilities to look for things we're not yet thinking of; and brought these ideas back for further discussion. The first phase of their design process is going to be well informed!
The second phase of their design process begins the day after our next PUBLIC FORUM! On Tuesday, January 30th*, in the Hartwell B-Pod, we have a morning meeting scheduled from 8:00am to 10:00am and an evening meeting scheduled from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. You will be able to see some designs specifically for the Hartwell Campus.
And, it is very fitting that we shall be holding our meetings on the Hartwell Campus as this location is the acknowledged future site for our community center. After studies (and studies...), discussion and input from Town Meetings, review by town safety personnel, program reviews by the schools and town officials, the Hartwell Campus is decidedly the right place for the Lincoln Community Center. After our January 30th meetings, step out and envision the transformed space!
Yours,
Margit Griffith

CCPPDC - Feedback Deadline Extended
Maryann Thompson Architects is counting on Lincoln residents to inform the beginning stages of their process so their designs reflect the town and its inhabitants. At LincolnCCPPDC.org, you can find the *"Character Study"* - a series of pictures to respond to from your "gut" ... how do they make you feel, what do you like or don't you like? - and a *"Wish List"* - a series of in-depth questions about what our community center should include to meet our needs.
The *deadline *to submit responses has been*extended to Tuesday, November 14th at 12noon *- so more people have the opportunity to provide this critical feedback!
Thank You,
CCPPDC
Margit Griffith (for the committee)
Thank you from the CCPPDC!
State of the Town 2017 was another beacon of democracy-in-action right here in Lincoln! We are especially grateful for the feedback we were able to collect during and after the meeting on Saturday.
If you weren't able to attend SOTT or you would like more time to fully reflect on the images provided by CCPPDC's architect, Maryann Thompson, (presented to illicit our gut reactions to different landscapes and interiors) or the SBC's architect, SMMA, (to gauge interest in various school footprints) YOU ARE NOT TOO LATE! But you've only got until November 10th.
Go to LincolnCCPPDC.org <http://www.LincolnCCPPDC.org> to view the images for the Character Study and to download the Wish List (there are instructions to help you along). You may also view the images, pick-up a Wish List or return a completed Wish List at Bemis Hall/COA, the Town Offices and the Parks and Recreation Department. This week only, so don't delay!
Go to LincolnSBC.org <http://www.LincolnSBC.org> to view the initial school concepts and to complete their feedback form. They want to know what you like, what you wish for, what you wonder at this early stage of design!
The more information the architects gather, the more Lincoln's Ballfield Road campus will reflect our unique style. And.... GO!
With Gratitude,
Your CCPPDC
Margit Griffith (for the committee)
Live from the Lincoln CCPPDC ...our new domain name! To make it easier to find us, you may now use LincolnCCPPDC.org. No more searching through the town site and hoping you get to the right place. Our new domain name is live and ready for use. You can also find us - guess where - at the *STATE OF THE TOWN MEETING on SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 4th at 9am*!
The School Building Committee and the CCPPDC together with the Campus Coordinating Committee have been putting the finishing touches on our brief SOTT presentations. Without (much) delay, we will turn our time over to the SBC architects, SMMA, and CCPPDC's Maryann Thompson Architects team, all of whom have coordinated an interactive program planned to help engage this community in a very real and meaningful way. We /could/ spend the time going over our processes to date and timeline for further development of our plans - 45 minutes of meeting notes and powerpoints; but you can find out what's happened in our meetings from the minutes on our websites (LincolnSBC.org and LincolnCCPPDC.org) and you may attend our open meetings to find out where we're headed. Giving you an opportunity for input - not to mention the chance to get up out of your seats - is a much better way to use the time we've been given at SOTT (and if getting up isn't quite convenient for you, we'll have accessible materials available as needed).
Can't make SOTT on Saturday? There will be an opportunity for feedback via the CCPPDC website on or around Nov 4th.
Yours in Preparation,
CCPPDC Members
Margit Griffith (for the committee)
Last night, the CCPPDC met for one of our usual bi-weekly meetings - which now include the team from Maryann Thompson Architects. This week, most of our discussion focused on how we will use our time at the upcoming State of the Town meeting (SoTT) on NOVEMBER 4th.
To say we're excited about the roll YOU will be playing during and around SoTT is an understatement. We can't wait to introduce you to Maryann and her team - who will have visuals for you to explore and comment on and a visioning survey for you to complete. This is, after all, a COMMUNITY center. Together with SMMA, the School Building Committee's architectural team, there will be plenty to talk about!
If you are able to attend the SoTT - on NOVEMBER 4th! - you will have an opportunity to do this cooperatively with the assembled group. If you are not able to attend, an online version of the character study (pictures for you to look at and comment on) and the survey will be available via the CCPPDC website* beginning on 11/4. All feedback will be gathered until the deadline of November 10th. Then, the MTA team will sort and review YOUR notes to help guide them in the beginning phases of their process. THEY provide the creativity, WE provide the context!
*CommunityCenterPPDC website has new content being added regularly. Our mission, updates, contact info and links are available (or will soon be) via... http://www.lincolntown.org/918/Community-Center-PPDC
See you on... wait for it... NOVEMBER 4th!! STATE OF THE TOWN - woohoo!
We are pleased to announce we have selected the award-winning firm of Maryann Thompson Architects to help us design a proposal for a community center for Lincoln. In our conversations with Maryann, she shared her stunning portfolio of completed projects and demonstrated she understands how important communication with the School Building Committee's architect, SMMA, is to a successful process.
Maryann and her team have embraced the challenge of designing around the historic and natural features on campus while combining their interior and exterior design(s) with the design(s) from SMMA... something old, something new, something functional, something cool?
Her commitment to gathering input during all phases of the project is exactly what this project requires and was a key feature we were looking for from the architects interviewed. With this in mind, look for opportunities for community engagement very similar to the recently successful SBC's visioning sessions. Stay tuned!
Greetings from the CCPPDC!
With a name like that, we can't help but succeed in our mission to bring a preliminary design to the town for consideration when discussing the current state of and future goals for the Ballfield Road campus. The town folk spoke and the town representatives heard you: there should be collaboration between any and all committees striving to improve the nature and service of the Ballfield Road buildings.
But let's start with introductions... Your CCPPDC members are Owen Beenhouwer, Sarah Chester, Doug Crosby, Jonathan Dwyer (for the Selects), Steve Gladstone, Margit Griffith (Vice Chair, Parks and Recreation Commission), Eric Harris, Ellen Meyer Shorb (Chair), Dilla Tingley; and Tim Higgins, Town Administrator, Carolyn Bottum, Director of Council on Aging and Dan Pereira, Director of Parks and Recreation.
We have been tasked with providing the town with a community center design on the Ballfield Road campus in answer to the Lincoln community's desire for a cohesive, cost effective and community spirited plan for Lincoln. We hope to provide enough information to help answer questions like...
- What is the realistic cost of a serviceable community center?
- What does a community center do differently from other town spaces and why is this important (much of this already addressed by prior studies, and we're happy to review)?
- Is it feasible and fiscally responsible to build the school and community center simultaneously or sequentially?
- Can/should the same architect and/or construction company build both?
- May the school and community center be built at the same time, or does the school need to keep current Hartwell buildings intact for alternate classrooms during the school build? Or are there other factors?
...and we hope to answer the questions you and we don't know yet!
At this point in time, your CCPPDC has met a few times over the summer, has opened the request for quotes from architectural firms to work with us, reviewed their quotes and are scheduling interviews. Our next step will be to choose a firm with which to work and to introduce them to you, the School Building Committee and the architect they have chosen (if different)...
...which leads to a first response to the question "can we use the same architect?" Well... yes and no. School buildings are such a specialized structure and architectural firms who design them tend to be quite focused on just that type of building. An architectural firm who promises they can do anything from a storage shed to a 20-story building probably isn't the firm we're hoping will design our next school building. Similarly, community centers tend to be a bit of a different creature and some firms make these designs their specialty. The School Building Committee and the CCPPDC have made it very clear to all parties that this is a collaborative effort by our two groups and we are requiring similar collaboration if the selected firms are different.
You will be hearing from the CCPPDC as we progress. You are always welcome to attend our open meetings (posted) and we hope to have a few community feedback events as plans develop - we'll be at the SBC visioning meetings on October 3rd and 17th... will hope to see you there! Once a month, a joint update will be provided to you by the SBC and CCPPDC, and you will likely see brief updates from one committee on the updates from the other. We have a page on the Town of Lincoln website that we are working on and hope to make more informative very soon.
